Hi all,

I was diagnosed in Australia a year ago, but have just moved to the UK and am finding very low carb substitutes here hard to come by.

Specifically:
- Pasta brands/supermarkets (I used to use soy pasta but can only find it at Ocado in the itsu protein noodle pots)
- low carb ice cream (my one back home was erythritol and coconut cream - 2g carbs per 100g). Have found none. Does everyone make their own or go without?
- chocolate or protein bars with 1-2g carbs. Have found none except those dreadful carbkillas that use maltitol so spike
- bread. Aldi Australia used to sell low carb bread 2.5g for two slices which was quite heavy but yum, and the main supermarkets sold squishy bread for 5g for 2 slices. I can only find the Ocado protein bread which is average.

I feel like I’ve spent hours trawling supermarket websites so hopefully this amazing brains trust will have some winners 🙂

*ps - I don’t always use these I just like to know where/how to get them if I’m missing things. I find having access to substitutes when I need them helps me stay on track

Hi LimseOz, Waitrose and I believe the coop do Livlife seriously seeded sliced bread 10.2g of carbs per 100g a lot of people recommend it.

I don’t think we get any of those foods here. You can use courgette instead of pasta if you like.

Hello and welcome. 🙂

We have edamame or black bean pasta which is much lower carb available in supermarkets if you look in the free from section or on line.
Here companies are not allowed to label things as diabetic foods so you may have to search a bit harder for low carb items.
There are some lower carb breads but not as low as you mention. Burgen soy and linseed or Livlife or Nimble are a few.

I see what you mean.

I go to the Coles or Woolies site, search "low carb" and I get a zillion products (most of which look pretty awful IMO but nevertheless "low carb").

Do the same for UK supermarkets and it seems like there's hardly anything relevant?
