Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
Hi All,

Was diagnosed with LADA in May 2021. Had ketoacidosis which alerted the specialists to my pancreas failing. I use Nova rapid and Toujeo to control my diabetes.

The libra2 system is what enables me to manage my bloods.

Stay positive, stay active.

Look forward to being an active member.

All the best

Welcome @Antfa 🙂 Great advice😎 You’re lucky you got the correct diagnosis promptly. Many Type 1s/LADAs are wrongly assumed to be Type 2.

Looking forward to hearing more from you on the forum 🙂

Many thanks. Just glad the Endo and diabetes nurses were on the ball. So many people struggle and it's horrible to see. Amazing what a good CGM can do. Looking forward to the Libre 3 then no scanning at all 🙂

Hi and welcome from me too.

Sorry to hear that you DKA'd but at least you got a correct diagnosis from it. Hopefully you don't have any lasting ill effects.

Great that you have Libre as it really helps enormously.

How do you find NovoRapid and Toujeo?

Have you had an education course like DAFNE or BERTIE online or have they been mentioned? These courses are quite intensive but DAFNE or whatever your local equivalent is, provides a great opportunity to mix with other Type 1s which it a huge bonus in itself as well as learn how to keep yourself safe with insulin all manner of situations like exercise and illness and with alcohol. Well worth asking about if you haven't been offered such a course yet.

Well you sound like your coping well! Proper ray of sunshine ! Welcome x

Welcome to the forum.

If you are techy, you can use non standard apps (like xDrip+ for Android and xDripIOS for Apple) which do not require scanning today.
The way Libre 2 works with its alerts is to send the interstitial fluid to the LibreLink app via Bluetooth. LibreLink uses this to decided whether to alarm or not. The unofficial apps hijack this signal so you don't need the scanning.
I have been using xDrip+ since I got Libre 2 at the start of the year.
These apps are not available form the app store. The best way to access them is to join the Facebook groups which contain a wealth of documents, links to the apps and some very helpful support.

Hello @Antfa, welcome to the forum.

It's great you're keeping positive since your diagnosis and I'm glad the Libre is working well for you. Seems like you've settled into the diabetes life quite well! 🙂

Thank you. The way I see it is there are many more people out there who have worse things to hinder their life. A few pricks a day and the world isn't so bad. 🙂 x

Fingers crossed, only time will tell on that front. Novarapid is great, just the 15 min wait time is a little bit of a pain when starving 🙂.Splitting the dose works wonders and of course carb counting also. The Toujeo works really well for me. thanks for the advice on the education courses, i'll have a word with my diabetes nurses. 🙂

Thanks Cameron. It could have gone one of 2 ways. Always been a positive bloke. It was a bit of head fry the first day having to inject with no guidance etc due to covid but it's now a way of life. Thanks for your comments 🙂
