I've heard there's different versions of Metformin you can try.

I know that there are different manufacturers but I don't know they all had a different version..?

The major difference is between Metformin and SR Metformin (for Slow Release). (I'm sure there are slightly different names, and maybe there are other significant differences between the brands. But the big difference is between the regular and slow release variants.)

There's a version of Metformin where the tablets have a special coating and this makes then extended release, so the active ingredient doesn't hit your tum like an express train.

I had issues with standard metformin, mentioned it to the GP who immediately switched me to the modified release version. Zero problems now.

I was fortunate and the GP started me on modified release. I've had no problems

Hi AnneMarie, thanks for sharing your experience, I too have had that same problem but no one said it could be the metfor min.? How did they resolve it.
Dead easy, I stopped taking Metformin and it stopped immediately. My diabetic nurse said it’s a well know side effect of Metformin so I suggest you discuss it with your doctor.
When I subsequently ended up in hospital again (with a BG level of 168) my medical history and various test showed I never was type2, should have been on insulin years before Good luck

Hi annemarie, how long did it continue before you found out it was the Metformin? Because iam still getting long bouts of very loose stool , I've been blaming it on my diet ,but its looking like another suspect may be responsible. Thank you for the information. My last bloods were 16.1mmol this afternoon..

You need to discuss with your Doctor then!

Metformin is infamous for digestive upset and is unaffectionately referred to as "Metfartin" here on the forum although if flatulence is the only side effect you suffer from it you are lucky. Some people are so bad they suffer incontinence with it. The effects often wear off after a few weeks but some people continue to experience problems long term with it so do ask for the slow release version if you are still having problems

I only know of this cause it was mentioned on here. I didn't notice any affect from Metformin.
