Amigo, you're absolutely correct, it's me that's having to deal with this and I'm not happy being 2st overweight, I'm not happy when I can't find the motivation to go for my walk.

Surprisingly my HBA1C was 6.2 (44) so obviously I'm doing something right but I just need to reduce my 'treats' and increase my exercise. Don't let yourself slip. I felt great when I had the motivation and I lost the weight and I don't understand why I can't get back to that place.
Stuart,
I'm new here also, and still new to this bewildering world!
As you can see below I've just achieved an hba1c level of 6.2 3 months in - my PN was extatic with my result (me being me I wasn't - I wanted 'normal')
I have massively increased my activity in recent months and the best bit of kit I have bought and use is a Fitbit. 4 months ago I wouldn't have gone near one - but now swear by it. It records how active you are, what exercise you have done, what type of exercise you have done (how it knows I really don't know) - even walking! and how long you've done it for. The best thing for me is it tells you go many calories you're burning based upon your BMR. I'm now usually burning about 3200 - 3800 per day ..... and you can set your own targets too!
I know I will disagree with others, but sod the BG meter - my Fitbit is what is doing it for me and got me to where I am - and keeps me motivated! and I'm now an exercise bore!
P.S. - get the bike out, you'll be amazed how much energy even gentle cycling uses - the wife and I love it now!

If I were you, I would look at my diet/way of eating as well, because you may have gone back to your old diet to regain the weight? I know exercise is great for fitness, but you may need to look more at the diet as well.

This is what I would have liked to have known from day 1. I would cut the Sugars including fruit/juice and Starches, including breads, pasta, rice, potato etc
This gives a simple overview to how it works for me. The more carbs I eat the more carbs I want. They don’t give up easy and it’s biochemical

I love your posts Bilbie. I'm a sucker for a bit of science. 🙂

If you liked that one, this one will make your mouth water 🙂
OK - I'm convinced. I thought I was following a low carb diet, but I need to aim for sub 50g/day and ensure that my fat intake is adjusted to an appropriate mix/level. I'll give it my best shot. Do you have any tips?

OK - I'm convinced. .. Do you have any tips?
Don't forget the salt and there is no such thing as too much olive oil. 🙂

First off, do you need or want to go ketogenic? Not everyone does. Your A1c is 31 on no meds. I assume your weight is coming down too. If what you are doing is working for you, why change? Some things are just good to know for future reference.

There are some T2 benefits to keto if the BG and weight wasn't right, other than that you would do it for sports performance. I know some of our footballers and cricketers are on keto, as well as the normal endurance athletes.

You're so rational Bilbie. I have no particular reason...I simply thought I'd give it a try and see how it feels. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Moderate steps are the right approach, Stuart. Far too many people would drive instead of walking or cycling short journeys to GP, meet partner etc. Your approach is better for personal health as well as environment! 🙂

Sometimes, though, I look for reasons not to. Is it going to rain? My calf is a bit sore, I'll get the bus. All too easy but I'm trying to be more disciplined. Yesterday I spent over 30 mins on Wii Fit and got my heart pumping for a while. Then I walked for about 35 mins. Today my calves actually were sore (from yesterdays Wii jogging) but I didn't use it as an excuse, so some more 'jogging' on Wii Fit and spent 20 mins doing other exercises. My partner isn't working so I'll spend another 30 mins exercising on the Wii tonight. Thanks again for your comments. They really do help!
