Type 1
Hi all, just wanted to say hello.

Was diagnosed with type 1 in May after losing about two stone (which I didn't really have to lose...) and the usual drinking, wee'ing etc.

I'm pleased to say I have everything under control and have put some of the weight back on. I'm on a basal/bolts regime which is working really well.

I've managed to get back to racing my bicycle (road racing), and canoe slalom (won this weekend so must be getting back on form!).

All the best!

Paul

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sounds like things are going well for you, which is good to hear 🙂 I also lost two stone prior to diagnosis and was due to run a marathon the week I was diagnosed, so I can empathise!

Not sure if you are aware of it, but http://www.runsweet.com/ is a good resource for sports and diabetes, plus I found the book Diabetic Athlete's Handbook really useful in understanding the effects of exercise on your blood sugar control, and the use of insulin.

If you have any questions, please ask, or if you have anything to get off your chest - be our guest! 🙂

Welcome to the forum Paul. Sounds like you've done a great job getting things under control, and I have to agree that MDI is so much easy to work with! Hope you enjoy hanging out in the forum.

Welcome to the forum Paul 🙂

Thanks everyone!

Paul hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Well done Paul

Looks like you have made brilliant progress so far 🙂

Welcome The Mewster.

Have you thought of combining cycling and canoeing / kayaking in adventure racing - obviously, you'd also need to do some running / trekking, and some cycling would be off road, and canoeing tends not to be slalom standard white water, but is often on rapidly moving / white water / sea / rivers / lakes etc plus you'd need to be able to navigate.
