Type 2
Hi everyone, I'm type 2 on 2 x insulins and metformin, diagnosed about 15 years ago. 5 injections a day but I'm fine with it, just trying the flexibility of carb counting and insulin adjustments now. Am getting better, just need to get my hb1ac down a bit more. My problem seems to be mid morning munchies when I am at work, so when I get to lunch my pre lunch readings are always too high. Any suggestions for snacks that are low carbohydrate, but not fruit as I eat lots at other times. Thanks

Hi jaa7, welcome to the forum 🙂 How about nuts, cheese or a slice of ham? Crispbreads are only about 6g carbs, so shouldn't have too big an impact - what sort of things are you eating at the moment when snacking?

Hi jaa7 and welcome to the forum 🙂

My snack box is usually filled with some chunks of courgette, celery, chinese leaf lettuce and broccoli/cauliflower stalk. Usually I add nuts (hazelnuts, walnut, brazil, almonds) into the mix as well.

I think most of those are fairly low carb.

If my snack is over 10g of carbohydrate under my new regime I should inject (on top of the 5 I do already), so I am trying to keep them down, but in the morning I need a couple of snacks, I eat brekkie at 6am (usually porridge and fruit) then seem to need food at 8am and 10am before lunch around 12. I might have a medium banana first. I do eat nuts, carrot sticks, sometimes cereal bars, crispbreads, 1 slice bread but it never feels enough as it seems I am feeding the insulin, and hungry.

Jaa hi and a warm welcome to the forum.

Thanks. I like the idea of a snack box, usually my snacks are the same thing. My dietician just gave me a good idea though as I do have chocolate cravings. She said get a bar of chocolate, cut it into chunks and freeze them, and when I get a chocolate craving, just get one of the pieces from the freezer and enjoy with no guilt.
