Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I've had diabetes since I was pregnant with my son back in 2014 and have been active on the other diabetic forum though appreciate all the support I can get wlth this frustrating disease. I've been in denial up to a point and managing with a mixture of weight loss and meds and exercise. I also teach yoga and really hope to keep my diabetes in check so that I don't have to go onto insulin.

Looking forward to catching up with you all in other places on the site. I'm also doing the million step challenge.

Gosh I'm on a few now though still need to watch my sugars. I'm on Metformin 2k mg, Sitagliptin 100mg and Dapagliflozin 10mg. Quite a cocktail!

That does sound a cocktail (although not the nice kind :D ) I asked out of interest and because I know a number of women diagnosed during pregnancy who were actually Type 1, so it’s interesting to hear your journey and how things have progressed 🙂

I think they would have moved me straight to insulin if I was Type 1. This is down to me being in denial. I'm one of those who could go into remission if I was disciplined enough. I've gotten much better though and continue to improve. I used to eat a chocolate bar every day in my 20s and more recently loved my Boba tea.

Welcome to the forum from me also
You are certainly on a cocktail of medication and for that reason it suggests that your diet is still doing you no favours if more meds are needing to be added.
Are you testing your blood glucose at home with a blood glucose monitor so you can identify meals which may be too high in carbohydrates for you to tolerate. Testing before you eat and after 2 hours with the aim of an increase of no more than 2-3mmol/l or no more than 8-8.5mmol/l will tell you if your meal is OK.
Are you keeping a note of how many grams of carbohydrates you have per day because if you are having low amount of carbs but blood glucose is high that could be a red flag for Type 1 so bear that in mind.
There are tests which you could ask for if there is doubt those being c-peptide and GAD antibodies.

Welcome to the forum @Ellesangel

Sorry to hear you are finding diabetes frustrating, but glad you have found us. Diabetes can be relentless and frustrating, and it can be so helpful to have others walking the same path alongside to share experiences with people who ‘get it’

Hope you are able to find a new balance between meds and menu.

Let us know how you get on
