Hi all,
I'm so relived to find some support online! This type 2 journey can be so lonely, and everywhere you turn there's contradictory information.
I'm really hoping I can get some tips and hear other people's mounjaro stories. Most of what I find about mounjaro is positive, but my experience isn't great so far, and I'm not finding support through my doctor/diabetic nurse. They tell me it will get better, so I guess I'm looking for reassurance that they are right.
I've tried to keep it brief, but just the outline seems a long read. Thank you to anyone who gets to the end!
I was diagnosed as type 2 in 2019, went into remission within three months and had been happily in remission until early this year. I have been suffering with a separate illness for a long time, and was really unwell from July 2024 to March 2025. In February 2025 I was prescribed medication that I queried because it had warnings for diabetics. My hba1c test later that month had increased significantly, so I was put on metformin. In May 2025 it had increased again and metformin was increased, but I was also put on mounjaro. There was a delay at the pharmacy, so I only started mounjarno mid June 2025. I managed to get an early blood test beginning of July and my results are now heading in the right direction.
During the period I was really unwell I had put on some weight. Between March and May 2025 I managed to lose 2 stone and was feeling pretty good, so was gutted when my hba1c had increased. My weight plateaued when the metformin increased. Since I started mounjaro I have gained half a stone in a month.
I don't know whether my symptoms are due to metformin or mounjaro or a mix of the two. Each week my symptoms seem to get worse. It started with nausea, but now I'm being sick. It also started with dizziness but now I'm lightheaded most of the day and have actually passed out. I can't get to sleep and then I wake really early, so i know sleep is an issue. I also know I am undereating because of the nausea and because I feel too full, but I am eating healthily when I do eat and I'm making sure I eat protein rich foods. I am keeping hydrated.
Did anyone else find that they put on weight initially with mounjaro? Any tips to lessen the symptoms and get my weight headed in the right direction would be gratefully received.
Thank you, and hope you are all keeping well.
