So I have been wonderfully brave; got the Accuchek devices, persuaded nice surgery nurse to help me set it up and am actually PRICKING my FINGER. I know you must think what a weed but I was really squeamish. Turns out it isn't really a big deal ! and there's me who all my life stared at the ceiling if I had to give blood for any reason.

But what numbers would it be good to see on that dial? Today I wobbled around from 9.5 on getting up to 5.9 now going to bed. That seems the wrong way round. What am I aiming at? Is a normal person constantly 5.6ish - before and after food/ midday/ midnight.
I am type 2

A non-D's BG would fluctuate too, just not by very much! The body is incredibly good at keeping all those variables balanced.

Have you read 'Jennifers Advice' or 'Test Review Adjust'? There are links in the 'useful info' sticky in the 'newbies' section. They give useful suggestions for a framework to use testing effectively 🙂

Sorry , I have now read Jennifer's advice properly - it's all there. Sorry to waste your time.

Hi sienna

Glad you got on ok with being able to test yourself & you aren't wasting anyone's time by asking questions, I was total to keep myself between 4 - 7 but now have DAFNE targets to aim at so I can relax my control slightly.

And I'm with you on looking at the ceiling when blood is taken!

Hello Sienna, welcome to the forum.

If you don't ask questions you won't find stuff out! So, never apologise for doing so. 🙂

Your starting levels seem a little high, but not excessively so. Probably due to the bad old Dawn Phenomenon (caused by the liver releasing glucose into the system because it's trying to be helpful). But on the other hand your end of day reading sounds excellent!

The guidelines I was given when diagnosed were (and this may differ slightly from Jennifer's advice, but it worked for me and enabled me to be medication free now for 3 years) :

1) Before meals --> 4 - 7mmol/L
2) 2hrs after meals --> 7 - 9mmol/L
3) Avoid <4mmol/L (hypo)
4) Avoid >10mmol/L (hyper)

Anyway, keep it up and good luck!

Andy 🙂
