Relationship to Diabetes
Parent of person with diabetes
Hello, I am Avril. My partner was diagnosed type 2 last June, then after reading books and noticing changes in my son he was diagnosed type 1 in August just after his 12th birthday. He still in 'honeymoon period' I assume. He is on Lantus and Humalog 4 times day. Life is very up and down, but I am trying to learn to carb count and hopefully match insulin to my sons' eating patterns. He tends not to eat at school and just snacks, he then has insulin and food at home. Not that he won't do it at school but there is too much to do rather than stop and eat! I will be reading your posts and picking up tips.

Hi Avril, welcome to the forum 🙂 We have people with all varieties of diabetes here who are more than happy to help out whenever they can, so hopefully your partner can find help, and both of you can share experiences with other parents about your son.

Something that many parents have found very useful and informative is Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas. You might be able to pick up a copy from your library, but it's also worth having on your bookshelf as it will answer many of your questions in the months and years to come 🙂

Welcome 🙂
