Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi my names Art and i've recently been diagnosed as type2, I've not worked for the last 17 years due to other health problems and as a consequence i am not that mobile, resulting in my putting on weight, in fact i lost two stones about 5 years back, but i just can't seem to lose anymore. The dietician says that i'm eating all the right foods, i think it's just the lack of daily exercise that is the problem. Because of my mobilty problems i can't really walk that far, bend or twist to any great extent, although i do go 'swimming' once a week, (generally it's just a splash about). My upper body strength pulls me thru the water. Any one got any ideas, exercises i could possibly do to help me get some of this excess weight off? my BMI is 27.5.
thanks
Art

hi there art and a warm welcome to the site , how about a exercise where you sit i think some one mentioned thai chi, not to strenuiose

Hi Art, welcome to the forum🙂 Sorry to hear of your diagnosis, on top of everything else that you have been coping with. Have you been able to see a physiotherapist? I know that there are a variety of exercises that you can do, particularly if you still have upper body strength and mobility. Perhaps there are others that share your mobility problems that are taught as a class?

I do hope that you can find some good advice and are able to shift some of the weight, it must be very frustrating and difficult.

Please feel free to ask anything you are unsure of, and we will try our best to help.🙂

Hi Art, welcome to the forum.

Sorry if this sounds silly, but I have a Mr. Motivator DVD (there, sounds silly already, doesn't it!!) and there is an "Upper Body" section, which you can do whilst sitting down.

I'm not suggesting you rush out and buy a Mr. Motivator DVD (but if you want to I got mine very cheap on eBay, lol) but just to say there's probably DVDs out there dedicated to chair-bound exercise.......

xx

Hi Art, A warm welcome, lovely site with lots of lovely people, new here myself and had nothing but wonderful advice and sharing, Northerner's advice is sound, not knowing what your abilities are, swimming sounds good aerobic exercise, combined with what the physio recommends. Perhaps a rowing machine or such likes? Or simple sit ups or crunchees? But whatever, make sure your physio recommends anything you do, as you may injure yourself. To combat type 2 diabetes means having to keep to a lifestyle change which can take a bit of getting used to, including diet. Stick with it Art........you're not alone now.🙂

totallly agree i joined monday an i have learnt so much ! remember one thing at a time, we know we have to do this, there are loads of us out there ...so well be alright

Hello and Welcome to the forum Art , anything you want to know just ask and someone will be able to help or advise you. 🙂
