Hi everyone!

I've been diabetic for nearly 9 years now and so far have been on tablets. These no longer seem to be working and my doctor has referred me to a speciallist nurse who he says will put me on injections. He did say though that it won't be insulin it will be something else. Apart from being needle phobic I am worried about what this stuff is that i will be injecting. Does anyone have any idea what it might be and what it does. My main worry  is that I am already overweight and i've heard that insulin makes you put more weight on so will this other injectin stuff do the same! Any info or help from anyone will be greatly appreciated!

🙂

Hi Meema, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm speculating that it might be something called Byetta, or possibly Victoza. Several of our members have been on both, so they will be able to share their experiences with you. Actually, if it is one of these then it is more likely to help you lose weight rather than gain it, so try not to worry! You inject once ot twice a day using a device that looks like a pen.

A lot of people have a fear of needles, but you should know that these are absolutely tiny and very fine, not at all like the syringes you may be picturing in your mind. Also, you inject into fatty areas where you have few nerve endings, so the vast majority of times you will feel nothing when injecting - just occasionally you may feel something, but really nothing much at all.

Please ask any questions you may have - everyone is very helpful and friendly and there will always be someone here if you want to let off steam or share your concerns 🙂

Hi Northern,

Thanks for that info that has made me feel much better. I know I am probably being a winp about the needle thing but it's just the way I am. The thought of it helping me to lose some weight does take the edge off the needles though. Think I might be able to manage it if there will be a visual benefit. I look forward to hearing from other people with their comments about this injection.

Thanks again!
