Hi all . Just had my animas vibe for over a week. All going ok apart from the afternoon where I drop. I have always had this problem in the afternoon. I have reduced my basal to 0.15 from 0.55 from about 14:30 to 19:00. Without snacking I drop. It is almost like around 4 hours a day I need no insulin!

Anyone who uses a pump was wondering whether any of you have periods during the day that you need ridiculously low basal rate or none at all???

It sounds as if you need to reduce your basal at an earlier time.
Like you I tend to drop low in the afternoon so I start a lower dose at 12.30pm.
I also have a period from 8 pm until midnight when I use only 0.025 of a unit per hour.

Hi. My basal rates range from 1.65 to 0.5, its what makes the pump so brilliant.

If you're lowering your basal at 14.30 I wouldn't expect to see any impact until about 16.30. Assuming you hypo before then I agree with sue, try reducing your basal earlier. As a rule I need to do it about 2 hours in advance

Aww thanks guys. Thought it was just me!. Lol I will def try doing it earlier!🙂

Hi Ash, have you done any basal testing yet? If not you need to think about doing some. 🙂
1st though obviously stop the hypo/low late afternoon, then start with your night time basals.
Pleased you like your pump 🙂

Yes my son has very low basals from 8am to noon, going down to zero on schooldays, and actually requiring an unbolused snack mid-morning sometimes (since he can't set a negative basal rate!).

Mine dropped very low at about 11am so did some fine tuning over a couple of weeks and now it's ok. It takes a little while but you do get there in the end. 🙂

:DHi am going to start to do basa testing this weekend. Definitely starting with afternoon. Not looking forward to the night ones.

Wow zero basal. I have a funny feeling I might need this!

Well, how about me then? I'm not on a pump, but I had to stop my basal insulin nearly two years ago because I was down to two units a day and waking in the low 4s. However, I do need a lot of novorapid in the mornings - far more than my meagre breakfast would suggest, so I think much of that is covering my basal needs. I suspect that, if I was on a pump I would need basal in the mornings, but declining in the afternoons, then no basal for evenings and overnights. I doubt I'll ever get the opportunity to find out though! 🙄

Good luck with the testing! 🙂

You will find it easier to do the nights first of all 🙂 Once you have your night basal sorted the rest will fall into place a lot easier.
Just make sure you stop your afternoon lows before yo start your testing 🙂
