Relationship to Diabetes

Hi everybody

I've just found this group (from recommendation in Balance) though have had the condition for just over 20 years, about a dozen years of that on insulin. Generally kept well (probably due to reasonable amounts of exercise) though control never quite perfect.

Last few months ain't been so good as my eyesight has become problematic (may not be diabetes related, the Eye Clinic have done several checks but as yet nothing coming up as the cause). On top of that now having a few persistent infections, again nothing diagnosed but if a dog had as long a list of things that aren't possibly quite right and could be the cause you'd probably think about the kindest way out for the animal.

All in all shows how very isolating and depressing this condition can get.

Sorry to start on such a negative note, probably just need somewhere to get things off my chest and things will start to seem brighter as we move in to the longer, warmer days.

Hi Simon, welcome to the forum, good to have you with us 🙂 Sorry to hear that you are having some problems and niggles at the moment, I hope that the problems with your eyes can be sorted out soon, and that the infections go as we leave winter behind 🙂

What insulin are you on? Any other meds? Please feel free to join in with conversations as and when you wish, I'm sure your long experience will be very valuable to others. I look forward to hearing more from you - feel free to have a good old moan or a rant if you wish, you're amongst people who know just what you mean! 🙂

welcome to the group from 1 newly diagnosed simon to a long term diagnosed 1

Hey Simon, sorry to hear things aren't going so well. Welcome to the forum from another Suffolk person🙂

Hi Simon
Welcome to the forum. Sorry you're having a tricky time with the diabetes, and hope you find this place helpful, most of us do 🙂

Hello Simon and welcome to the forum. It is a good place for help and advice and also to just let off steam and have a bit of a moan. People here are lovely and have helped me such a lot. Sorry to hear that things are not so good hope that the better weather brings some improvement. 🙂

Thanks for your kind greetings.

Still don't know the cause of the degradation of my sight but the consultant obvious thinks its a rare and (to him) interesting case and wants me to go up to Moorfields for further tests. Me, I'd just like it fixed, but do acknowledge and worry that that may not be possible.
