Hi @tigers12 and welcome to the forum. I'm a fellow type 2 but my diabetes is kept in check by diet, exercise and metformin, so I'm not able to advise about insulin. There are many people on here who can though, and I'm sure one or more will be along soon to help you.

Just thought I'd say "hi" to welcome you to this friendly forum 🙂

I am a type two and started off at Hba1c of 91 in 2016.
Not eating high carbohydrate foods moved me back to normal blood glucose levels quite quickly, and I have stayed there ever since.
Type twos usually produce adequate amounts of insulin, but simply can't cope with the amount of carbohydrate in the modern diet.

I don't eat potatoes or any starchy vegetables, no grain and no sugary fruit.
I don't need medication as my numbers are normal, but as a type two you could gradually reduce your carb intake as long as you can lower your insulin doses to suit the levels you see on your meter.

It isn't insulin wholly, it's a mixture of insulin degludec and liraglutide hence only used in Type 2s as the bit that the liraglutide works on has already popped it's clogs for Type 1s. (Insulin degludec = Tresiba; Liraglutide itself = Victoza.)

Welcome to the forum @tigers12

Some have found that switching to insulin has been very helpful. Others have managed to reduce their meds by changing their diet and level of activity, and then found that they are healthier overall through these changes.

I did it with just Low Carb Higher(er) traditional Fats 'Way of eating'. No additional exercise, no medication, no hunger or starvation was required. But Blood Glucose testing was required.
Just LCHF and test , test, test the BG response to meals until I know exactly what I could and could not eat!

"wholly", alternative spelling "wholely", meaning entirely, I think @trophywench meant it isn't just insulin! Not an insult. 🙂

How long have you been diagnosed? You seem to have tried quite a few different medications if your diagnosis is recent.
I have not read of anyone else here using xultophy, I think it is maybe still rarely used in the UK.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

hi that was recommended by a diabetes specialist but im not on it but it was advised im currently on Gliclazide 80mg tablets
Humulin I KwikPen 100units/ml and also Trulicity 0.75mg

No not an insult at all. 🙂

It's unclear from the info about it online how you adjust the dosage to get the right amounts of the drug - I mean being a mixture, you can't increase - or reduce - either component without increasing or reducing the other one.

Have they done a blood test for C-peptide to definitively prove what 'type' of diabetes you have? or just an HbA1c?
