Hi, my name is Cassie. I've been type 1 diabetic since 1972. I was 18 when I was diagnosed, I'm well controlled and no issues or complications. I've three children and three grandchildren. My last HbA1C 5 months ago was 53 (8.6). I use Levemir twice daily, 10 units am, 5 units pm. And Novorapid for my meals. I carb count (attended a carb counting course in 2013). I'm on a free trial for a Freestyle Libre - two months so far and still undecided about it. Also on the waiting list for a pump but also undecided if the pump is for me. Most of the time I like to get on with my life and enjoy it and have never obsessed too much about being Diabetic. That's all really, I look forward to reading all the varied info on here. I live in Scotland, although originally from England. I have found the diabetic care in NHS Scotland to be absolutely wonderful. I am fortunate to have an excellent consultant and diabetic team who are always there for me. Plus I live in the only health authority in Scotland which is giving free trials of the Freestyle, and if I do end up liking it and can get this all free on prescription. I hope sometime in the future everyone can be as fortunate, as it does seem unfair it is all so patchy and not joined up across the nation.
