Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi
I'm new to this forum but have had type 2 for 15 months or so now and was prediabetic for many years.
Mainly, weight. Mainly drugs. Yes, I have a long list of other illnesses, but fibromyalgia is the one with the most drugs for weight gain!
So, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis when I was 30 as a result of a sports injury on my knee. Cartilage and tendon tears which left my knee in a bad way. Hence my 1 st knee replacement at 50. But now in every joint of my Skeleton.
I also have degeneration of the spine with stenosis of the spinal cord and scoliosis.
I have had blood clots and the last, timed to May 2019 and Covid crisis, was a pulmonary embolism with right heart close to failure and lung damage, which flipped me over to full diabetes due to long recovery and lack of exercise... Luckily I don't have PAH but close. High BP and needing statins. And yet more drugs.
I do have breathing issues due to being overweight mainly and am embarking on the NHS 12 week diet when I return from our cruise in August.
Question here about holidays.
Does anyone take oxygen with them? What type? What about insurance? Who with? I am struggling with this and paying a lot!
Thanks

Hi @Elliwc 🙂 I can see you joined the forum in 2021 when you had prediabetes. It sounds like you’re coping with a lot of health issues. That must be hard.

For travel, I’ve always used All Clear as they cover pre-existing medical conditions.

Welcome to the forum @Elliwc

Goodness! What a lot you have to contend with. Sorry to hear that you’ve drifted over the dividing line into diabetes territory, and that some of the other meds you need to take make it harder to manage your weight :(

For Travel Insurance, you might like to check All Clear (that @Inka suggested) who are recommended by Diabetes UK. There’s some information here which may help

For your questions about Oxygen while travelling, you might like to call the DUK Helpline (Mon-Fri 9-6 on 0345 123 2399) who may be able to give you some pointers?
