Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was once on this group a while back, and now have returned, I have been Type 2 diabetic for almost 11 years, and struggle like everyone else. And wishing society would understand that this isn’t a walk in the park. People that don’t have diabetes need to stay out of our lives if they don’t know what they are talking about. And what I mean by that is: stop acting like you know what’s good for us.-stop lecturing us, you don’t know what goes into this everyday.
- your not helping when you say, so many people live with diabetes, it’s just change in diet and exercise, well if they only new, that it’s everyday and testing your sugars, and can’t eat what they eat, counting carbs, no holidays from this disease, If a non-diabetic did this for 6 months I guarantee you would be fustrated angry in tears, and even give up, then get back on the horse to only go through these steps again and again that’s what diabetes is a vicious circle, of course we have good days to. But when that stress enters your life which is guaranteed because that’s life, your sugars are going to be on the rollercoaster up and down, up and down till that stressor in your life is gone. Then you try to talk to your doctor about how your feeling and not much response or no response then you go home totally defeated like your health care provider doesn’t give a care in the world about your feelings. Or then you try to talk to a family member about your disaster of a day with almost low sugar or to high of sugar and you did everything right, and they just look at you like saying your fine. No Im not I’m worried, can’t you just say,” I hear you, I’m here for you let’s talk I see your feeling fusterated, looks like you need a pick me up.“Wouldn’t that be nice, that they noticed how overwhelmed your feeling.

So have any of you gone through this! My heart goes out to everyone who has any kind of diabetes, I know how hard and how annoying and how fustrating it can be.
And some days you just throw your hands up in the air, or just have a good cry.❤️

Yes - I do indeed have times like that - and in the finish anyway, however many sympathetic folk I happen to have to talk to, cos my husband is, friends are and the people on the forum always are - so far I have always 'managed to snap out of it' myself cos at the end of the day when nobody loves me, everybody hates me - I really have never yet had any desire to go down the garden and eat worms - since I really don't believe that could possibly help!

Welcome back @Craftygal

Sorry to hear you are experiencing what sounds like a bit of ‘diabetes distress’ at the moment. It is quite common - and can be hard going to work through.

There are thankfully a few more resources being put towards supporting the mental health of people living with the burdens of long-term (and relentless!) health conditions like diabetes, but accessing specialist psychological support can still be pretty tricky, and sadly is very much a postcode lottery.

Diabetes UK ran the ‘it’s missing’ campaign a few years back, to highlight the work still needing to be done in this area
