Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Want to say hi to everyone. I am new to the forum but was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 17yrs ago aged 29, when I was pregnant.
I have been ticking over, getting on with my life since but it has been a rollercoaster of hypers and hypos, injecting for 15yrs with Novorapid and Levermir and Metformin SR 4 pills a day. Then changed Levermir to Tresiba and introduced Ozempic.
18 months ago Symptoms of Fybromyalgia began, all appointments and tests were delayed, thanks Covid, but just been diagnosed with Fybro.
Current situation:
Hba1c - 39

I take too many meds to list as I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis in my hands and hips and now Fybromyalgia to add to the list.

I do have a question if you can help. I take Losartan as part of my high blood pressure meds and due a kidney problem they have halved it. Well, my glucose readings have gone up, doubled in fact up to 8-10 from 4-6.
Has anyone else experienced this please? And if so have you had options?

Losartan is known to lower serum sodium and this can affect the kidneys, not that it ever did affect mine but in my case they stopped it entirely anyway and changed me over to other types of medication for my BP. Hence I wonder why they only halved it for you knowing that you DO have a kidney prob. Might just be cos my old GP was very cautious.

Hi Logiebear_00, welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear that you're having to deal with so much, I can only imagine how challenging it must be.

I agree that maybe your GP has made decisions based on your other health conditions . Might be worth also having a chat with them to find out what your options are.

It's my blood results always show a slightly high potassium reading. So they halved the Losartan to see if that was the cause. Due my repeat bloods on Monday. My BP is fab at the minute because I have lost 3 st in weight.
What meds did you change too?

Thanks for the reply. I will contact them because I don't think the Dr has thought about the adverse effects on my glucose levels.

Doxasozin. I can't take any of the ~pines since they make my legs swell with retained water and usually they can then prescribe a diuretic, but that's contra indicated for me because of the low sodium! There are one heck of a lot of different BP drugs they can usually try people with, to see what works sufficiently and without causing intolerable side effects. Sometimes, you have to kiss quite a number of different frogs until you find your prince. (I never had a problem with that!)
