Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all, my name is Dave (59) I’m type 1 diabetic and I have been for the last 18 months, I am looking here for information on diets and healthy eating whilst being unable to smell or taste due to a recent bout of covid.

Hi and welcome. I am type 2 so don't have much by way of info to give you, but I know you adjust your meds to what you eat, rather than have so many restrictions, but you will get tons of help and support here from the members.

Well - what sort of things do you actually like eating, normally? and have you tried looking here to see what others have enjoyed?

There was a New Scientist article on the 5th May edition about what foods to try if your taste was affected by COVID.
But you may have to subscribe to access it.

Welcome to the forum @Davef

There are lots of ideas about what to eat in the link from @trophywench .
Have a read through and add some ideas of your own If you fancy that.

How are you coping with managing your T1? Have you been on an education course regarding carb counting and dose adjustment? Being able to self adjust your insulin doses gives you the flexibility to eat what You want to when you want to.

Whatever questions you have just ask. There is loads of experience to tap into on here.

Sorry to hear about your brush with Covid. Hopefully your sense of smell and taste will return before long.

I like @Benny G ’s ideas of engaging other senses to help with food enjoyment.

How are you with spices? Would making things more powerfully flavoured help?

Are there specific types of flavours (sweet? salt? sour?) that still cut through?

Welcome to the forum @Davef

Covid is such a nightmare and I hope that your sense of smell and taste will return swiftly.
have you tried anything to get these back, if so what have you tried?

Keep us updated.
