Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello All,

I am a TP2 diabetic and have been since 2010 (my first pregnancy). I am a currently quite ashamed with myself as i haven't been controlling my diabetes and not taking my medication. My eating habits are quite bad and i need some help to get myself on track. I went to a pre-assessment today as i was due to have surgery however due to my high HBA1C they will not carry it out. My A1(c) is 112 and it should be between 20-42. My fasting glucose if 14.8. I hope that i am not judged at all on this forum but i do need help- i always start to eat right but dont stick to it. Is there any suggestions regarding meal plans or how to manage it?

Welcome Harpreet,

Absolutely you will not be judged, we are a self-help group to advise, encourage & hold each other accountable.... Oh and have some fun along the way......

As for meal plans, I don't have any, just what I decide to make on the day.... One thing though is to cut or reduce carb sources like Bread, Pasta, Rice, Cereals & starchy vegetables like potatoes.... Instead replacing them with green leafy vegetables.
As an example, tonight I'll be having Orange Chicken served on a bed of Broccoli.

Hi and welcome to the forum. This is a great place for help and advice, you will get lots of it when you need it. One thing you won't get here is judged.

No one is allowed to judge you without your permission. Welcome, we all go through bad stages. You are not a loan, that's what 118 is.
Try starting small changes, cut out your bread or change to something more D friendly.

Welcome.

Hi there

If I am any guesser I'd say rice was most likely one of your staples - but anyway if it isn't - have you ever tried cauliflower rice? Grate it raw and dry fry it, serve with whatever else you want practically, it's lovely and as long as you use fresh as possible cauli, it doesn't even taste of that veg done this way. It will substitute absolutely fine for either spuds or 'ordinary' long grain rice with most world cuisines anyway! At virtually Nil carbs, and points scored on the '5 a day' list - it's just one such substitute you could make with very little effort whatever.

Hi Jenny,

I've always wanted to try cauliflower rice however I suffer from IBS too and I can't have certain food and cauliflower is one of them and that goes for spinach too :(.

Thank you. I am going to try a different meal plan this week and it low carb.

Hi & welcome to the forum. Another good swap is courgetti instead of pasta. Mixed in with a nice home made sauce, it's hard to tell the difference.

Interesting - a lot more discussion recently (in scientific/research areas) about the connection between gut bacteria and diabetes generally haprpreet - worth keeping your eye on anything along those lines.

Northerner - the Admin here - usually posts anything he becomes aware of that's new anyway which is probably where I've seen it and certainly going back to when I was diagnosed, certainly the professors at Bham Uni Medical School thought that there was a link.

I will look into doing some research on it. Thank you

hello I am Ali, aged 49 almost 50 and was diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 in September, I had PCOS since my teens and that caused me misery, including infertility, womb cancer and apple shaped weight gain, I have almost wasted legs and a big belly , I only weight 2 stone over weight and what confuses me is why there are morbidly obese people who are not Diabetic and yet I have got it, apart from the fact I had carb addiciton my diet was good, I don't know if its the PCOS that's caused this, since September I have lost 7 lbs from cutting down on carbs and sugar

Welcome.
Many Morbidly obese people are Diabetic, of course there as always some exceptions.

I was watching about a very very fat lady in America and she isn't Diabetic.
I have seen many programmes on morbidly obese more seem to be than not, and when they discuss weight loss surgery,t hey point out that following surgery many can come off Diabetes medication.

I think that illustrates how obesity isn't the whole story. There's probably a genetic component which isn't fully understood. Some obese people don't get Type 2 diabetes, others who are normal weight do.
