Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello everyone
This is all a bit of a shock to me I was at doctors feeling very tired and very dizzy had blood tests my blood come back at 6.4 but only found out today from a emergency doctor that I as knocking the door for diabetes but my own GP as not told me any think at all , where do I go from here with my food what do I eat so many questions i don't know how to start ,
I also have had Neurendocirine cancer , Barratts and NF type 2 sorry for going on ,do you get dizziness with diabetes questions after questions .can anyone please advise me Help

Hi @Littlechef , welcome to the forum. The first thing is, don’t panic.

6.4 is 46 in the not so new system , 42 to 47 is in the pre diabetic range sometime called glucose intolerance, this means with the right info and work by yourself you could turn this around or at the very least delay the onset for quite a time possibly many years.

I am sorry but I do not know enough about your other conditions , ie if a special diet is required

With diabetes it’s carbohydrates we can’t handle too well if at at all , sugar is just a simple carb and in the uk is already included in the carbohydrate content on the nutritional label often on the back of p@cks and tins.
We usually have no problems with protein or good fats we can have problems with fruit, berries are often tolerated better , fruit juice and grapes though considered healthy are chock full of fruit sugars.

When you are ready for a little um Er light 😱🙄🙂 reading have a read through these , for future reference you’ll find them and a lot more at the top of the newbies forum in the thread called, Useful links for people new to diabetes.

To find out our individual tolerances for the various carbohydrates we recommend self testing , this blog explains how

Sadly many GPs will not provide meter and test strips unless we are on medications that can cause hypo’s if this is the case with yours and you would like to test so you can make informed choices about food then The cheapest meter to self fund the ongoing cost of the test strips £8for a pot of 50, other brands sold in chemist are over £15 for a pot of 50:
The SD Codefree meter

You should be seen by the nurse at the gp or perhaps due to your other conditions referred to the hospital diabetes clinic.

Feel free to ask any question about diabetes, we’ll do our best to help.

Others will be along soon , some will have more knowledge of your other conditions

Hi...

It seems like a constant up hill battle at first and then bumps along the way.. When I was new last autumn the people on here were amazing....there is so much conflicting advice out there it and so many faddy diets and and and..yes I was getting very dizzy and fainting all over the place.
I live in the west midland too ☺️

Hi Pollyanna

Thank you for your reply, it as not sunk in yet still need to find out what's what from my doctor i have appointment in morning so fingers crossed .

Pleased to meet you .

Hi and welcome. The faintness and dizziness is familiar to me, those were the main symptoms that led to my eventual diagnosis. It will go as you get your levels under control.

With your Hba1c at 46 you are only just seeing full blown type two on the horizon - if you treat your inability to cope with carbohydrate seriously then you should have little difficulty in making it recede into the distance again.
Common foods such as bread, potato rice - all the breakfast cereals and sugary fruits are going to be the ones to avoid.
I avoid them completely but I am a full on type two.
The foods you can eat are proteins and fats (yes, seriously) and low carb veges, salad stuff - it's good for you, and delicious too once you get into the herbs and spices, roasting and stir fries and the like.
