Hi All and Happy Easter .. Aged 53 Male diagnosed as T2 12 days ago in Shanghai where I live . Thirst , Bladder and Dry Eye Symptoms for last 6 weeks . First thing I read on web is 'Don't eat Chinese Food' 😱. Initially given Glucophage 0.85g twice a day . First 8 days ok just occasional diarrhoea, last 4 days was hell with fever and constant arm pain . Returned to Doctor yesterday who has now put me on NovoNorm 1mg for the next month . Managing result levels / diet well so far , was daily gym alreay , BUT when attending the Doctor who made me fast , take Glucophage then drink 2 cups of sugar concentrated water then took blood for following two hours, my levels when crazy high. When he got those results an hour after i'd left he phoned me telling me to pop another Glucophage. Thats when the fever started . As previously said as of yesterday I've switched medication . Any views/comments/experience most welcome .
 
Welcome @back2mine 🙂 How high did your levels go? I’ve never heard of similar arm pain so I can’t comment on that, but it sounds unpleasant.
 
Well sounds to me that the test with the sugar water is the Chinese equivalent of the old fashioned OGTT test, which used to be used instead of two HbA1C blood tests - but was dropped by Western medicine as not reliable enough in this day and age. (Plus latterly the NHS tended to use neat full sugar Lucozade as more pleasant to drink and far easier to keep a few bottles of at a GP surgery to keep handy should it be needed)
 
Hi back2mine, welcome to the forum.

I would have raised an eyebrow too if that was the first thing I read! As you may be aware, this forum is UK based but the info is still valid apart from the medical side of things may differ.

I'm guessing the carbs and sugar in the main meals are the issue but it would be quite an fun adventure to find alternatives that are equally as tasty.
