I bought a new one because my old one has died after a mere thirty years. I've just set it going for a beef casserole and am looking forward to the results later. I'm feeling a lot better BTW and breakfast (one slice of wholegrain toast and a scrape of butter with a cup of tea) stayed down so I'm going for it.

These are really useful gadgets, I can stick whatever I want in it in the morning and it's ready for me when I get home. I can cook as little or as much as I want and freeze any extra. No muss, no fuss and very little waste.

I have a problem with mine! They stews etc. always get to saucy - I always think if I use less liquid it will dry up too much but I need to give it another go as I obviously haven't got the knack!

I have used mine every weekend for the last 3 weeks.......

carb free/very low carb stews.......

lovely....😉

Slow cookers are great, especially for stews. Last week I bought a small gammon joint and surrounded it with tinned peas, sweetcorn and mushrooms. Cooked it for about 7 hours, and it was lovely.

Mind you, you wouldn't know that to hear Wills, as for some bizarre reason he regards tenderness in cooked meat as a fault; he also insisted on doing mashed potatoes, as he reckons no meal is complete without them.

Saucey stews...we always make the gravy too thick to start with. There is a lot of water in fresh veg which thins the gravy down some. We have never had a bad slow cooked meal and when you come home and open the front door the aroma is something else!

Slow cookers are fab. If I want a hot meal at lunchtime I use a timer so the cooker starts at 6 AM.

Father Christmas brought me a 2-section slow cooker. Last weekend I used one half to make a chicken curry, and the other to make stock with the bones.

I got one from my FIL, used it once to make a lamb stew

Stick that pheasant in a slow cooker with a bit of wine. Best to pluck it 1st though 😛
