Is anyone else worried a letter will drop on their doorstep this week? I’m type 1 and a teacher so have been working since September in school face to face teaching.....seems crazy there’s a possibility that could change with no warning. It’s impossible to know who has been generated

The model uses age, sex, ethnicity and BMI as well as health conditions, so i'm thinking as a young white female i won't be on the list. Imagining it's older males from ethnic minorities with high BMI and medical conditions that will be contacted

As I've written in another thread.

The government site gives the threshold of
  • an absolute risk of 0.5% (or 5 in 1,000)
  • a relative risk of 10 (or 10 times the baseline risk)
When I calculated mine as a T1D, aged 44 with a BMI of around 30, it came back at 0.0118% so no shielding for me!
The government stated last summer that it was going to use this to decide who should shield and in what order people would get the vaccine.

In answer to am I worried I would receive a Shielding Letter then NO. I'm more worried about having to work in a large NHS trust. I believe we should have been shielding since day one. Luckily I have now have both my vaccines so starting to feel a little safer.

I have a relative risk of 26 for death and 11 for hospital admission, but both my %s are low. I’m assuming the high relative risks are because healthy 33 year olds are very low risk.

To everyone on here - have you any idea how blooming depressing it might be to have constant reminders that I and a good many others have already done our 3 score years and 10 ?

Haven't been able to do anything remotely interesting that I actually enjoyed since last September.

Be nice to just be able to go somewhere when I feel like it, and have some different adult company for a bit, aaarrgghh.

i am not sure why people are scared of the shielding letter it is just advice and does not mean that you or anyone else has to go in to a prison like state. many of us got these last year there is nothing set in law that you have to stop at home it is up to you what you do. people found out last year that there was no support any way.

No I am not worried at all. You see I have always believed that the original shielding criteria didn’t cover enough conditions, imo It left out a lot of serious conditions or people with multiple conditions that individually would not make them more vulnerable but having them together would.

I am expecting to get notified about shielding soon, I’ve been doing this to protect my elderly dad wh is very vulnerable since early last year , feb I think , so no change for me.
It will sure be a novelty when I do go out.
I think it might be wise if I break myself in gradually, perhaps to the end of my street as I don’t want to go into shock. :D

Unfortunately for some people once told to shield you are no longer to work as the risk assessments at their place of work won’t allow them to. This has May have huge impact on them.

How would work know if you don't tell them.

If you didn’t tell them and something happened any insurance would be invalid and you’d have no protection... a rather dangerous thing to do!
