New prostate cancer urine test shows how aggressive disease is and could reduce invasive biopsies

Researchers from the University of East Anglia have developed a new urine test for prostate cancer which also shows how aggressive the disease is.

A new study published today shows how an experimental new test called 'ExoGrail' has the potential to revolutionise how patients with suspected prostate cancer are risk-assessed prior to an invasive biopsy.

The research team say their new test could reduce the number of unnecessary prostate cancer biopsies by 35 percent.

That is a fantastic development. My OH has had enlarged prostate for years and had a TURP procedure a few years ago but recently felt something deteriorating and had just had a MRI, CT scan and now been sent an appointment for a ultrasound, seems like they are leaving no stone unturned. Very quick appointments following the referral.

I once watched a very moving TED lecture presentation by a 16 year old who had managed to get a placement in a lab and worked with a team of researchers developing an idea he had for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer which his grandfather had died from having not been diagnosed until it was too late.

Still kills a bloke in the UK every 45 minutes. There are new scanning methods rather than having invasive biopsies pdq. Unfortunately some chaps won't go near being tested (a very simple blood test) since there does need to be a physical examination (finger up the bum) quite soon if the blood test makes it likely summat's up. Just as well men haven't got vaginas and cervixes isn't it!
