Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with type two in 2006. I have good and bad years in controlling it, as I am looking for a job at the same time, and DWP seem not to care about people's health and just want to get you off their listings (personal opinion). In 2019 it was found that I had a blocked artery in my heart so I was given a Heart Bypass. At the beginning of November this year I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, so trying to deal with that too.
My health is controlled with the help of tablets, insulin and eating healthily. I try to get out for a 3 mile walk every day when I can. I admit that I am not good at remembering figures for my control, I deal with it on how I feel, mostly because I want to get on with life.
I am going to try the Diabetes Org Learning Zone for the third time, the other times it just stopped working.

Richard

Hi Richard and welcome to the forum. I haven't had T2 long enough to know what it must be like to live with it for so long, but I know I'll find out as the years go by.

Sorry to hear about the other complications you have. It's great that you are getting out and walking 3 miles, it's not easy to motivate yourself to do it in this weather but I make sure I walk at least twice a day, morning and afternoon.

Good luck with the Learning Zone, and if you have any questions, please don't be afraid to ask on this forum.

Hello Vonny,
Thank you for your reply.

I am interested in what you do when you go for a walk, I have tried listening to music or a podcast but I found that I like to hear what is going on around me.

Welcome to the forum Richard Zoostorm from a fellow T2, 6 years in of the 10th of this month.

I have to have my headphones in and my music on otherwise I dawdle! If I've got my Deff Leppard and Offspring on I can manage over 4mph which is really quick considering how short my legs are 😉 (I'm only 5' 1")

Hi Richard, welcome to the forum. 🙂

It's great that you go for a walk every day. I hope you find the Learning Zone useful!

Sorry that you have had problems with the Learning Zone. Perhaps you could call the Helpline (number at the top of the page) to see if they can help, or to make the Learning Zone team aware of the problems you have had.

Hope the forum can help you fine-tune your approach. Presumably you have access to plenty of BG test strips because of the insulin you are on, to check your levels around food and activity?
