Guess who's due to get a Novopen Echo? 🙂
Its the only half unit pen now so I am waiting on a prescription for this, difficult to get hold of since its only just come out.

The how many/since when digital feature is pretty nifty, personally not something that I need but useful anyway. I actually got to meet with the rep to show me how it works and everything, I haven't had a cartridge pen so was a bit worried but seems to be straight forward. I joke that the Echo has been made for me because my initials are ECH :D

Excited to start using half doses, i'm having afternoon troubles at the moment. 3u and it sends me low by 5ish even if I snack. Is it possible to have a delayed first phase insulin response? This would make sense otherwise as it takes 5hrs for it to come down, say if I eat around 10 then that means my injected insulin works on that, then my own seems to set off at like 3ish?!

Went to a concert last night (Florence and the Machine! Absolutely amazing!!!!!) and went out to eat at Nandos ~2pm, only took 2u and had chips too but I ended up being at 4.7 whilst on our way ~post 2hrs meal, i did buy some cereal bars but then discovered they had oats in so couldn't eat them. Crisps won in the end! Strange pancreas workings...

Oooh exciting Liz! Nice to get new toys to play with. Hope it works out well for you 🙂

I've always had cartidge pens and loved them. Couldn't imagine having to cart around a whole spare pen when the previous one was running a bit short - but a cartridge is so tiny it'll fit in anywhere 🙂 Reusable pens seem to have a much nicer 'action' too from what I've seen of reusables.

Good luck playing with your half-unit doses!

Wow, I didn't know the ECHO was out!! I've always wanted one for Carol. But since she's on a pump now, it's become irrelevant.
Please let us know how you personalised it.🙂

Sounds like a big improvement. I hope it works for you

Yes I understand what you mean, the pen (not cartridge ones, what do you call them?! lol) feel so flimsy, not like medical equipment should be! This one felt much sturdier, definately a good thing as otherwise i'd be worried about whether or not i'd get that half unit!

I also find it silly that they always leave an amount, can't remember, at the end that is unusable! Considering I only take up to 4 units at one time and could use those last 4 it seems so silly! Hhm.

I had to have a replacement Novapen so I went to see nursie and she ordered one for me. Thats when the trouble started. I went to pick it up and take it home, had a look at it and something just didnt feel right. I found that the new Novapen I was prescribed delivered TWICE AS MUCH INSULIN that it was supposed to. Lets all be careful when we pick up a new pen.

How can a pen deliver twice as much insulin, surely it only delivers what you dial up?

John.

I've got one on order at the pharmacy - already have a half unit novopen, and a Lilly memoir, which is on the blink. The Echo has a memory feature too I think, so can have half units on a memory pen. I use both novorapid and humalog with the two pens. So excited ! (and sad🙂)

Thats right john but these 'units' were double the usual units i.e. my old pen I dial in 12 units, the new pen dial in 12 delivered 24 units. I noticed this when I drew up 12 units for my midday inj. The dispenser button (the bit you push with your finger/thumb) was out twice as much as normal. The pen they had given me was a childs pen (green) calibrated in 0.5 units. They took it back and lots of apologies when they saw that I could have easily inj twice the dose.
