Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi i'm Estella, 16 and type 1 diabetic for 9 years.
I have just moved from suffolk to staffordshire.
got my gcse results yesterday.
and got told of by the doctor as well yesterday.
finding it difficult at the moment to control my diabetes, as i have so much on my mind.
home life, well my mum had a baby 3 weeks ago and i also have a little sister who is 4, so i won't be getting help from there.
don't see my dad too often, but he has two girls of his own to look after so won't be getting help from him either.
just feel a bit alone at the moment, haven't got any friends here really all so very new.
feeling a down at the moment, but hey aren't all teenagers.
i don't go out and drink, nor do i smoke.
quite a boring teenager to be honest but i know the consequences of drinking and smoking when diabetic.
would be great to talk to anybody 🙂

Hi Estella, welcome to the forum 🙂 It does sound as though there is a lot going on around you, but not much concentrating on you and how you are feeling at the moment. I'm sure they do care for you and worry about you, but it may not seem like it at times. I hope that you were pleased with your GCSE results - will you stay on at school or college?

You are welcome to come here and talk whenever you want 🙂 We have some people your age and quite afew who are a little bit older but have had diabetes for a long time so I'm sure they will be happy to share experiences and the ups and downs with you! Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, or if you want to, let off a bit of steam when things get you down - we all understand! 🙂

Welcome to the forum Estellaa.

I'm not going to start lecturing you, because I'm a mere whelp in comparison with your experience (I was diagnosed Type 2 in October last year). And anyway, 16 year olds frighten the beejeebies out of me! :D

Andy 🙂

p.s. If you think that saw this post elsewhere, well you did! I've just moved it here instead. 😉

Hi Estella! I'm Shiv, I'm 22 and I've had the d for 19 years. When I was a teen I didn't go out getting drunk or smoke either, so I guess that makes 2 boring teens amongst us 😛

It's hard when you haven't got any proper support around you, but this place is great for emotional support. Have you joined any other online groups, such as on facebook?

Hi Estella

Welcome to the forum and well done for joining🙂

You sound like a wonderful teenager and well done for wanting to control your D and being so sensible about it. You sound like a star! 🙂

I haven't joined anything on facebook, as i have family on there and they like to snoop in to personal business :(
and my old friends are on there and they would wonder whats up and i don't want to explain everything to them.
sound weird i know.
thanks for the welcomesss.

Hi Estella, welcome to the forum.

I certainly don't think you sound boring at all! 🙂 You sound like a very sensible and together young woman. I think you will find others on here that are able to help far more than myself with the D, but I think I'm a good listener so if you need anyone to talk to send me a PM. Take care of yourself, lv Shirl x

Hi Estellaa and welcome.
As long as you're happy(ish), then boring is fine! But you don't sound boring to me. Having a new baby in the house, parents living apart, moving house is always tough - but Facebook might be a good way of keeping in touch with Suffolk friends as well as new Staffordshire ones. You can adjust privacy settings to avoid sharing status posts / photos with certain people. Hope youre GCSEs allow you do what you want from now on.
Our lodger's children (16 year old girl & younger son) live with his ex-wife, but they come to stay for weekends, which is good for all of them - and my partner, me, our cat & ducks. Many people think that arrangement sounds odd, but it's fun!

Hi Estella, welcome to the forum.

Hi Estella,

I've been meaning to say hello for a few days now but just never got around to it. I'm nineteen and I've been diabetic for fourteen years of that. I'm not exactly a typical teenager or student too. I am a bit of a drinker and occasionally smoke. Feel free to ask me any questions. I can give you my MSN or Facebook details if you want me to.

Tom
