THE controversial 111 helpline is causing headaches for staff at Basingstoke hospital.
Since the introduction of the non-emergency helpline in Hampshire, there has been a rise both in the number of general hospital admittances and in the number of inappropriate admissions ? patients being sent to hospital who do not need to be seen there.
Donna Green, deputy chief executive of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, told The Gazette: ?Initially, we are definitely seeing an increase in the number of admissions due to 111. This includes some inappropriate admissions.
