Hello, and welcome to the club nobody wants to join! There are quite a few of us on here who were diagnosed with Type 1 as 'mature' adults ( I was 51). There's a lot to get your head round at first, but it does get easier. Give us a shout on the general message board if you have any specific queries, meanwhile you might find the sticky thread at the top of this section a good source of information and reading material.

Was diagnosed Type 1 4 days ago.
All new and scary.
Hi B!nxz, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, how did it come about? What insulin have you been given, and how are you coping with it? It's exactly 9 years today since I left hospital after my diagnosis, and I can still remember how it felt. However, thanks to good support from my team and the good people here I have managed to get to grips with things and am doing well - no reason why you shouldn't also 🙂

I'd highly recommend getting a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - whatever your age it's brilliant and covers all aspects of living with Type 1 (I was 49 at diagnosis!).

Please let us know if you have any concerns or questions and we will be more than happy to help out 🙂

Hi A warm welcome to the forum B sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I hope we can help you where needed x

Hello to B

Things will become clearer,,

You will get sensible advice in here.

Good Luck.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Hi B!nxz and welcome to the gang. We're a friendly bunch, so if you have any questions feel free to ask on the general message board and one or more of us will help wherever we can.

You're right, B!nxz, diagnosis with type 1 diabetes as an adult is scary. I'm nearly your age now, diagnosed just over 20 years ago, aged 30 years. It's manageable, though, and good control lessens chances of developing complications. I have no problems, although get my eyes checked once a year to make sure it stays that way.
What are your concerns and interests in life - sports, work, hobbies etc?

Hi B!nxz Welcome. The guys and gals here have helped me through some difficult times since I joined a little over a year ago, we'll do our best for you if you give us a chance. Ask any questions you need to ok.

Hello @B!nxz and welcome to the forum 🙂

Hello @B!nxz and welcome 🙂
I'm another late onset type 1, diagnosed aged 44 - a few years ago now.
As others have said, please ask if you have any questions and someone will try to help.

Oh, it's just a thread that always appears at the top of a section, and has a little drawing pin symbol by it. (I think they're also known as pinned threads, I'm not very tech savvy, I just pick up odd bits of terminology here and there without really thinking about it!)

Thank you, I learn something new on here almost every day x

Welcome B!nxz
As others have said there is loads of help available on here.
It is a lot to get your head round but it is manageable.

The book that Northerner recommended is excellent. Clearly indexed and easy to use. I still go back to it and find new bits of useful info.

Look forward to hearing from you.
