As some of you know i went on my local freedom for life (carb counting) course, i missed the first follow up (but intend to get a day off for the next one in dec) luckily one of the ladies emailed to tell me they had all been given new meters, so i contacted my (brilliant) dsn about this and now have a freestyle insulinx touch screen meter, i simply input my carbs and it tells me how much to inject based on the ratios we programmed into it, i like the fact i no longer have to keep a record book as it is all recorded in the machine and the dsn or consultant can plug it in to put graphs of my results on their computer..... result for me esp as i didn't know these existed (head in the darkness lol)

Sounds great! I think quite a few people here have them, or have tried them 🙂

I've heard very good things about them - and I really liked my Expert meter (which does very much the same thing). Several threads/posts about them over here and here.

You may well have to spend a fair amount of time 'tweaking' though in order to provide the meter with the information in the 'right' way for it to give you good advice (which may not *quite* be the same as your own understanding of your target range/ratio/correction factor etc.). My experience with the Expert was, if it doesn't work straight away... keep going!

I believe the DSN can give you a code that allows you to adjust for yourself but at the beginning the DSN will need to do the setting up, so make sure you get the code!

How bulky is this meter in its case, compared with, say, the Accuchek expert meter? I have one of the latter and the only thing that stops me using it is its bulk. I used it for a while but then went back to my Nano because it's lighter and fits in smaller handbags.

i havent seen the expert one, i think thats what my brother has tho i am not sure so next time i see him i will compare.... i dont think it is bulky at all, bit bigger than previous meter but the case is not bigger
