Type 1
Hi all
I was diagnosed with type 2 in 1996 but recently after weight loss surgery I have been diagnosed with type 1. A bit shocked to say the least!! I am learning new things every day and decided to join this forum.

Welcome to the forum! As @Anitram says, Type 2 doesn’t turn into Type 1, but.....
It's possible to be misdiagnosed in the first place (I was, I was assumed to be Type 2 because of my age 51, at diagnosis, until tests proved otherwise)

Or, just because you had Type 2 before your surgery, doesn’t mean that you couldn’t suffer an autoimmune attack and develop Type 1 in later life.

How did you come to be diagnosed with Type1? And how are you getting on? There’s a wealth of experience on here, so fire off any questions and we’ll do our best to help.

I was misdiagnosed in1996 and it came to light because i developed ketonacidosis after my surgery because i was taken off all my medication. The surgery has been a success and ive lost 4 stone. My levels are great at the moment. It did feel like being diagnosed all over again.
