Good morning, I heard about the forum at my recent Desmond course which was really good. Having read some of the threads I can see it will be really helpful. I am a newly diagnosed type 2. My hba1c was 8.4 so on meteor in for a couple of months and maybe something else later. Look forward to chatting with others...... Steve
Hi Steve, welcome to the forum
🙂 How did you come to be diagnosed? I'm guessing 'on meteor' is actually metformin?
😉 Good to hear that you have already attended a DESMOND course, your team must be on the ball - many people aren't even aware that courses exist!
😱
What did you think of the course? Reactions and reports vary - some good and some not so good, depending on the kind of advice given. You might like to have a read of
Jennifer's Advice and
Maggie Davey's letter to reinforce your newly-acquired knowledge, and I would also recommend getting a copy of
Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, very helpful for guiding you through these early months
🙂 Do you have a blood glucose meter so you can discover your tolerances for different foods? If not, it would be a very good idea to get one - your nurse/doctor may give you one (some will, some won't), but if you have to pay for one yourself then the cheapest option we have come across is the
SD Codefree Meter which has
test strips at around £8 for 50. Have a look at
Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S for an explanation of how you can use testing to tailor your diet to your own individual tolerances
