Hi everyone . Just been diagnosed with type 2 . This is a new journey for me and I would appreciate any help or guidance support from other forum members .
Thanks in advance , Stevie

Welcome @Stevie B 🙂 Do you know what your HbA1C was at diagnosis? That will guide you on how big a change you’ll have to make to your diet. A good starting place is to write down an average day’s food for you pre-diagnosis, then look for places you can make changes. Are you on any meds for the diabetes?

Welcome from me, too. There's no shortage of guidance and support here. One thing that's helpful is knowing where you're starting from, ie your HbA1c, whether you've been prescribed medication or been told to lose weight. This helps us to tailor the advice to your specific circumstances. I would also hope that your GP or DN has given you some advice around diet, though that often turns out to be limited or in many cases doesn't happen at all.

Thanks for the replies . I will collect my first prescription today - I understand the drug is called Metformin . Again any advise regarding this would be appreciated .

It is best taken with food, not because it magically makes the carbohydrate in your meal disappear but it is less likely to cause stomach upset which some people get when they first start on that medication. The dose is often increased over a few weeks if that is needed.
If your HbA1C is not too high then GPs should really give you chance to make some lifestyle and dietary changes before taking the meds so knowing what your HbA1C will give a good indication of how much work you will need to do.
Many find that a low carbohydrate approach is successful and this link may help you with some ideas and there is some good general information, meal plans and some do's and don'ts. https://www.freshwell.co.uk/

Some people can take Metformin without any trouble, but it tried to turn me inside out and I could not leave the house after taking it.
I took it along with Atorvastatin, and in a few weeks I was in a very bad way.
After I stopped taking it, just eating low carb and in 6 months I was back to normal numbers, but the memory of those 5 weeks is enough to enable me to stick to low carb, no more than 40gm of carbs a day, and still be just above the HbA1c classed as normal 7 years later. If you can tolerate the tablets then they could help regulate blood glucose, but be aware that they could have nasty side effects.
