Hi, and welcome. Newbies often introduce themselves with some details about their diabetes, eg how long since diagnosis, HbA1c, any meds etc. Are you comfortable doing the same? Also, is there anything you want to ask for advice on?

Hello and welcome Walterbird and everyone else.
I’m new on here too. I’m pre-diabetic and would like to lose a stone and half which I have gained in the last 18months. My late mum had type 2 despite not being overweight and sadly became almost completely blind before dying of diabetes related stroke. So I have a big incentive to keep healthy plus I hate being so heavy. Looking forward to chartting and hopefully giving and gaining support.

Hiya @debinfrance - I'm also going to enquire whether you actually live in France and hence using their healthcare system (pretty good from what I've seen when I've needed them on just the odd occasion though I know there are some glitches in it from another permanently resident expat with summat else chronic other than D)

HI trophywench, yes to living in france, but only recently so though I’m in the system here I haven’t really needed it yet. We do a lot through the pharmacy which works very well ( and is 10 minutes walk away).

Hi @debinfrance and welcome to the forum (and welcome to @Walterbird as well).

There are several drug free alternatives for weight loss and T2 diabetes remission, the min 2 are :
1. Very low-calorie diet ( approx 800 cals per day). Several variations called Newcastle Diet, or Fast800 (Dr. Michael Moseley).
2. A Low Carbohydrate Way Of Eating (with no conscious Calore reduction) (Dr David Unwin's Southport surgery and also GPs at the Freshwell surgery both in the UK).

I lost just over 2 stone (and I was slim to start with) and put my T2D into remission (over 3yrs now) by using Low Carb.
Here is a link to the Blog post that put me on track to T2D remission:

Thank you ianf0ster for your welcome and your tips on weightloss. I’ve had success previously with low carb, found it straightforward and no ( significant) counting once you get the handle on carb values. I am lucky that I don’t have a particularly sweet tooth. I am finding it more difficult at the moment but its a ’headspace’ thing I think, need to get some discipline and forward planning in my life. But I will take a look at your suggestions - there’s always something new to learn.
And well done on your own weightloss!
