Its over whelming when you first get diagnosed. Your DN or GP should enrol you on a day course for type 2 and make you an appointment for diabetic eye test at the hospital. You get one every 1-2 years to check that the diabetes isnt causing damage to the eyes. White carbs are the worst culprits think pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, cakes, biscuits etc. Sometimes just by going low carb you can drop your numbers a lot. Berries are good but best eaten with or straight after a meal as this stops a big spike. Drink water, herbal teas, try moving after eating as exercise can drop your levels over time. Jason Fung on youtube has some excellent videos to help you understand it more. I joined the NHS low carb programme , it cost 70.00 a year but I have found it so helpful. You get zoom meetups twice a week with a group of other type 2s led by a health coach, there are articles, food lists, recipes, food diaries, discussion forum, exercise videos and much more. Cheaper than buying lots of different books etc.
