Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all just joined here, I’m Simon with diabetes type 1 had for 23 years

Welcome to the forum Simon

I am following the advice that is included in the updated advice from DUK
So I am socially distancing. All groups have been cancelled so we are keeping active by taking walks, keeping a sensible distance from others.

I am taking more care of myself, with time to ensure I am keeping hydrated, being sensible about food and doing as best I can with my levels. What we should be doing normally.

I am keeping in touch with people that I would normally get together with on the phone, and sharing images of the creative stuff I am doing with others via email.

I know I am fortunate to have a garden to get into so we now have a list of jobs that we are working on, both inside and out. We shall be left with nothing to do at the end of all this!!

I hope this helps

Hi thanks for this,
My situation is that I work for Lidl supermarket as a store manager, you can imagine the amount of people that come into the store, more so with this outbreak and people panicking.
I wanted to know if everyone with diabetes has just said to themselves they’re not risking it and gone off work.
There has been articles say that 5 million diabetes told to self isolate for three months. I can see what this is doing to people from the front line, they are stripping shelves my store is empty and can’t keep up with demand and it turns a lot of people into selfish horrible human beings.

I am lucky in that as of today I am working from home. I am a learning officer in a museum and most of my day to day work is no longer happening. I ran my last group yesterday and only a quarter of the people turned up.

I‘m fortunate in that I largely work from home, so all I am needing to do is switch face-to-face meetings to be video/tele-conferences.

I think the confusion around this is really regrettable. I certainly heard the live Boris Johnson / Chris Whitty press briefing on Monday where the ‘12 week isolation’ was repeatedly mentioned for anyone who gets a flu jab... but this isn’t what the actual guidance says. So somewhere or other they either changed their mind, or got themselves in a muddle. And the media reposts of it have just reinforced the confusion. :(

The official guidance reserves the ’isolation’ to folks with on chemo, with leukaemia, on dialysis, with CF, post transplant... and similarly significant challenges.

Isolation may be recommended more widely later, but that briefing has caused a lot of panic and upset in the diabetes community - unnecessarily so in my opinion.

Official guidance is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults

The longer this has gone I have decided that Whitty is not good at communicating to the public.

Dunno about that - he seems to be the only one who is thoughtful and consistent. Mind you, you have to listen directly to what he actually says in its entirety and not rely on edited highlights and media interpretations.
