New member, partner diagnosed, what has to go?

Hi
Just joined today in the hope I pick up some info to allow me to help my partner get his sugar levels under control. He's type 2. I know quite a lot about healthy eating having done it year in year out but have no idea what he really shouldn't have aside from the obvious. What about beer for example, although he's already cut down I can't see it as something he will cut out completly. Any advice appreciated.

Hi Shirl, welcome to the forum 🙂 The best type of diet to follow is a low GI/GL diet (glycaemic index/glycaemic load). This features foods and combinations that release glucose more slowly into the blood.

The GL Diet Recipe Book and Health Plan is a good example I have read recently.

Alcohol is interesting. Normally, the liver releases a steady flow of glucose into the blood, but when it is processing alcohol it stops doing this. So, whilst the sugar in the beer will cause levels to rise, it may not be as high as expected.
