Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi All, I was was diagnosed with pre-diabetes about 4 years ago. I buried my head in the sand until last year I tipped the balance with an A1C reading of 49. Whilst this would have been the time to really get to grips with my diabetes I continued to ignore it and over the last 18 months have gone from A1C 49 up to 70 at my last test 3 weeks ago. So I am now fully focused on getting this under control.

I am 5'11" and 134KG so BMI over 40. My initial goal has been to get the blood sugar under control. So I have stayed out of the pub and avoided bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc. This has certainly worked and using a Libre 2 sensor have managed to stay in the "green zone" (4-10mmol) for the last two weeks. At the moment the app is gauging my A1C at 6.5% / 48mmol after two weeks. So clearly my eating habits are having the desired affects. However as yet I have not lost much if any weight. As with many low carb dieters I am know I am overeating meat and dairy to make up for the loss of carbs. So I guess that is where I need to focus.

So now that I am under way I need to focus on calories as well as carbs to help reduce my weight ! My aim is to get to 100KG this year. Its going to be hard work !.

We done on now making an effort to get to grips with this, don't forget the Libre Data prediction is based on 2 weeks only whereas an HbA1C will be looking at the previous 3 months so they may be way off at the moment. The Libre 'green zone' will primarily be for those on insulin but for Type 2s 4-7mmol/l before meals and no more than 8.5 mmol/l 2 hours post meal is where people aim at.
