Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all,
just joined Diabetes uk, and wanted to introduce myself.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 back in July 2015, and decided to do something about it.
I weighed in at 94.4 kgs, so went on a diet and am currently 78.4kgs.

HbA1c reading back in December was 47, so I was told I could come off Metformin, which I did.
I was prescribed four tables per day, but could only manage one, so managed to do it my dieting alone.

I exercise three times per week at the gym and usually make 10k steps per day.

For my diet I eat just about anything I want, but track total calorie intake using MyFitnessPal, and also track my steps with Garmin. For the net calories I usually go with Garmin.
Am still in the overweight category and having trouble getting to the 'normal' range - which would require 1600 cals per day and it leaves me very hungry !
Would like to know what other diets people use.

Robin

Hi robin and welcome to the forum. I started doing weight watchers just over 2 years ago, been diagnosed as diabetic since August last year. So far I've lost just over 7 stone. I do a lot of walking try to aim for 15,000 steps a day.

HI Stitch, great HbA1c reduction. 15000 steps per day is quite a target, wish I could manage that. Any particular diet for your weight reduction ?

Hi Robin- welcome to the forum.

I carb count both for weight loss and glucose control.

I follow weight watchers, you get a daily point allowance to use on food and drink, stick to points lose weight! It makes you pick healthier options as they are lower in points and it stretches your points better. It's working for me so sticking to it.

Hi robin. Welcome to forum. I was diagnosed in november and taking metformin. Lost almost 3 stones since summer, but not by particular dieting. Have cut out junk and snacking, smaller portions and watch carbs badly. Although weight is better,(almost as low as i want it), but exercise is my downfall as i just dont get motivated to move when i get home from work. BG levels still reading high at times so i cant really offer advice. Lots of people on the forum have great experience which is great.well done for your changes. Carol

Hi Carol,
before I was injured, I used to run a lot (hence my injuries) I found a similar experience - so what I did was to go running at lunch time - gave me energy in the afternoon and I used the afternoon to recover as well, as night time I kept awake being energised and sore muscles etc.
Now I have to make do with the gym - not quite the same.
Hope you find something to motivate you.
Regards

Hi Robin welcome to the forum.

Hi Robin welcome to the forum, since I cut carbs my weight has dropped from 62 kilos to 53 kilos. Cutting the carbs really helps.
