Understanding hypos

Just read thread sent by Steff (wow) learnt more in the 3 mins to read that than the last 4 years. My problem was that since my levels have always been high without medication (diet controlled) they are now gone from say 9.0 to 4 and below .I found that i was due for Metformin but was feeling hungry and light headed . Didnt know if i should take my med or not I understand a lot more now thank you steff

Hi John

You might also find then that as you get used to lower blood glucose levels then your hypo symptoms will reduce. I used to get hypo symptoms when under 4.5 but now find them kicking in under 4 so always check before I drive unless I have just eater. It is because the body adjusts slowly to the better levels that you can get such "false hypos" . In your case you seem to be under 4 so you may find you need to tweak your diet a little if you find the problem too disruptive

I've learned more from the wonderful people on this site about the practicalities of living with diabetes than I've done from books, the Open University course, Diabetes UK and my very good medical team
