morning, I have been on the Newcastle Diet as much as possible for the last 5 1/2 weeks and have dropped 21lbs so far. I opted for the slimfast shake powdered purely as I am tight and it was the most cost effective to me. I am having no issues, no cravings, no side effects etc. which is great but I'm just a little concerned over the sugar content of these considering I am trying to control my sugar intake. I know its probably more beneficial to lose the weight at this time but wanted to know if I should move onto something else and what those 'something else' are? Huel, etc. and stop being a tight @ss. Thanks in advance for your help.

well done on the weight loss!

Nutritionally the soups and shakes whatever the make are pretty similar as they are intended as a replacement meal system, the main difference being the price.
As it is the carbohydrate content that is important rather than 'sugar' that would be the value to compare between makes of soups and shakes. Some people also like the Tesco ones.
If you are using the ones you buy from where ever then what you don't get is the support from a counsellor that you would have on one of the NHS programs.
If it is working for you then that is fine.

Congratulations on your weight loss @Ric*

Some forum members are accessing the NHS Path To Remission programme though providers which seem to use their own versions (Oviva?). Others are using off-the-shelf options like supermarket brands. There was a company called Exante that people used early on, but I think they went under.

You might like to browse the Remission section for some other ideas?

If you are concerned about sugar content (which does seem wise to me) then perhaps look for soups rather than shakes? Some companies seem to offer nutritionally balanced soup options that meet the calorie requirements of the diet.

There’s also some discussion of Slimfast / Almasad style ‘partial meal replacement’ products and what they provide vs ‘total diet replacement’ options here:

The Newcastle leaflet mentions some suitable shakes (see below) but it may be a bit out of date. Why not ask a specific question about which brands members get from the providers of their NHS Pathway Remission programme?

DIETARY REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS
The shakes/soups chosen should ideally:• Be individually packaged (sachets not a tub)• Contain between 180 and 220kcal per meal

The list below shows some products which, along with the vegetables, will meet the daily nutritional requirements of most people.

If choosing an alternative to those suggested below, check the label or ask yourhealthcare team for advice.

3 products per day plus veg:• Exante diet soups/shakes (make up with water)• Optifast soups/shakes (UK prescription, make up with water)• ASDA Great Shape (make up with semi-skimmed milk)• TESCO Ultraslim (make up with semi skimmed milk)• Keediet shakes/soups (make up with unsweetened soy milk)

4 products per day plus veg:• Slim and Save soups/shakes (make up with water)• Keediet shakes/soups (made up with water
