Hi, just a quick one as I don't want to bother my GP at the moment. I had my annual review

and my medication is changing to, I was told, a one a day Metformin, picked up my new prescription

and got 1000mg prolonged release Metformin but at 2 a day not 1 a day, question is, should I take

both at once or spread over the day? Thanks.

I would assume spread them (so take one with breakfast, one with your evening meal). (But I'm not a pharmacist. Which is an idea: if you're unsure and don't want to bother your GP giving your pharmacist a ring might work, or ask them when you next visit a pharmacy.)

I'd call the GP if it were me as dosage is based on the individual so I'd want to clarify as you'd been told one thing but another thing has been printed so yeah I'd definitely call and confirm what they want you to do xx

Hi Thanks all, it was just that on the phone medication chat they said once an day so thought it worth a question given the size of them, almost Duplo block size! 🙂 Will check with my pharmacist, thanks.

I would chat to whoever prescribed you it and wanted you to start taking it, the pharmacist wasn't there so better to call the GP and double check

I think you will find with Prolonged Release metformin it doesn't matter whether you take both tablets together or at different times. Read the leaflet and follow what it says if the prescription doesn't say.

Hi, pharmacist here! Prolonged-release metformin can be taken either once a day or twice a day. I can't provide specific medical advice online, however I would double-check what the prescribed dose is with either the GP or pharmacist as both are potentially appropriate and can be amended depending on how you get on with one particular dosing regimen.

Hope you get it sorted 🙂
