New medication

Hi, I'm going to see the diabetic nurse this week as I'm going to ask for my medication be changed from Glicazide to something else. (Victoza or Byetta has been kindly suggested). I'm a little concerned that they may say no because of cost. My GP surgery appear budget conscious as they were very reluctant about prescribing me a certain anti-emetic to cover my little girls chemo induced sickness. I'm anxious about asking already!!
Do many if you take the above medication? Did your GP prescribe it without a problem?

I have never taken anything to ease nausea, but I know lots of people use pepermint capsules. In our household we also find things like peppermint or ginger infusions help with nausea and stomach upsets.

We have quite a few members who have used Byetta and Victoza, occasionally having to battle a bit to get them prescribed, so you do need to stick to your guns and be assertive - make sure that if they do turn you down they can provide valid reasons for doing so, not simply cost. Getting good control of your blood sugars will save the NHS money in the long run and it's not as though these are prohibitively expensive, just more expensive than tablets.

In the past I've found with our GP that the more I can argue my case with facts the better chance I have, & sometimes it might take asking more than once. I guess if you can present them with a proposal of what you'd like and why exactly you feel it would benefit you it might help them conclude it's worthwhile. Best of luck!

Hope your little girl is feeling a little better.

Not sure if this helps but my hubby (also T2) has just started on Sitag;ipin instead of Gliclizide. I was worried he would put on weight so he was put on the the gliptin instead.

No mention of Byetta yet, but a colleague at work is on it & with a strict diet the weight is falling off her for the first time in years & she looks so well. Her BS are also much better controlled.

The only advice I can suggest is to write down what you think are the benefits to going onto Byetta and the reasons why Gliclizide is not right for you & hopefully your GP will listen to you.

Hi. I received the results to the HbA1c test and it was 9.2/77
I asked about Victoza and byetta but due to my daughter having more treatment and the possible lack of follow up I could access it was felt by the nurse to try Januvia. So I'm now taking metformin and this new medication.
I'm very stressed about everything and I don't mean a little ruffled, I mean properly stressed. I'm reading good and not so good about this drug but we are all different and so will react differently. Anyone have experience of Januvia? I need to be well to care and advocate for my daughter and so will try anything

Mmmmm, I haven't - but does anyone know, is it actually very different in it's action to Gliclazide?
