Type 1.5 LADA
Hi

I was diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 58. prescribed Metformin and Gliclazide. Went on zero processed sugar and low carb diet, got my BS levels averaging 5.5 and stopped taking any medication. Requested a GAD test in November, came back very high 2,000+, doc says I will be T1 soon, but presently LADA.

Hi Ian, welcome to the forum 🙂 Good to hear that you have got an appropriate diagnosis so soon - some people can go for years without receiving the correct diagnosis and treatment. I was also diagnosed later in life, aged 49, and the week before I was due to run a marathon. Although I started on insulin after 4 years I was able to stop taking my background insulin although I still need insulin to cover the carbs in my food and drink. There is a huge diversity where diabetes is concerned and some of us don't fit into the Type 1 or Type 2 categories very well at all!

Keep an eye on those levels and keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Welcome to the boards, ipetchey.

Always good to hear good news, as well as frustrations, and successes won by taking action over diet, exercise etc.

Just heading out cycling to swimming pool...
