Hi everyone and hello.
Ive been told im prediabetic. Have done a prick test just niw which says 57 and green, dont really understand as im still so tired and blurred vision?
 
Do you mean 5.7 ?
It's good you are testing, it will tell you how carbohydrates affect you and what Portion size of them you can tolerate. You're locked in a battle with spuds, bread, flour, pasta, rice etc. Recommended testing times are fasting in the morning, two hours after a meal and bedtime. The targets are 4 to 7 fasting, under 8.5 at two hours after a meal. 'Prediabetes' is not all that helpful, you might as well treat yourself as a Type 2 Diabetic. Having once been dxed as prediabetic you'll have it on you hands for good, yo-yoing backwards and forwards to the threshold. Some might say carry on to Type 2 Diabetes to ensure you get access to medical care and annual checks on bp, feet, eyes, kidneys, HbA1c etc.

Hi Persephone1, welcome to the forum.

Being tired and having blurry vision is normal when first diagnosed and usually improves once your numbers settle down.

Were you given your HbA1c number? It's the result of your blood test that they may have taken to diagnose you. It will help you to track your progress and figure out what type of lifestyle changes need to be made.

Your blood glucose number is within the normal range which is a good start. We've got some helpful info on our main site re testing and dietary adjustments that may be helpful.


 
Hi @Persephone1 and welcome. Glad you have joined us, it is a great group where you will find friendly people, help, advice, encouragement and whatever else you need. If you need help, just ask, no question is ever silly, we all have to learn from the beginning - I'm still learning, but am grateful for joining this site, it has been a blessing. Glad you have a BG meter, that is a great thing to help us see what to lessen or avoid, it keeps us on the right road - keep a food diary too, plenty of free ones online that will tell you the carbs, sugar, fats, protein, sodium levels, calories etc of everything we eat or drink, some let you add exercise which gives you extra calories - though carbs are the main thing to keep an eye on, for me at least.
