thanks so much donald, wat i would like to know is i am on 2 metformin a day , and have been ok on it, had a few highs on it, but i expect that till i can get stable, but this last 7 to 10 days i have been feeling really rough, my blood suger as been anywhere between 7 to 11 and this is not just happening on waking, i have had a bit of stress just lately, and i do try and not let it affect me, i try and keep calm but obviously not enough, so number 1 could you perhaps tell me the reason for this going high, and also how to control my stress more, thank you

Hello Diane,

Welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed in October 2009, so am not too far ahead of you in terms of getting to grips with Type 2 diabetes. I'd say that it took me a few months to get my levels down to a consistent level. One of the important factors was that I was given a blood glucose monitor and tested once a day at different times for quite a while whilst I worked out what foods affected me.

I was also very lucky to get on a Diabetes Xpert course (run by the NHS). This is usually a 6 week course (one afternoon a week). It provides a really good grounding in how to deal with diabetes and I found it extremely helpful.

As to feeling rough, this may be related to your body getting used to a lower blood glucose level? Either that or you've caught a bug and that can also affect your blood glucose levels.

If it's the former, then it is possible to work your way through it (I had a similar problem). If you can do some moderate exercise (perhaps a small walk?) and work you way up as you feel better, that should also help to keep your general blood glucose readings more consistent.

Andy 🙂

hi andy thanks for that, i do find if i go on my treadmill that i can get it down, but as i say just these last few days it works then it goes back up, i do take it in morning and night and also if i dont feel good in the day yah as you say it could be my body trying to cope with the lower glocose level never thought of that one thanks anyway i will see how it goes also take care yourself hope to speak again

hi am 64m, thank you for your advice yes i do take it morning and night and also if i feel not well in the day, but i will start taking it to find out wat foods are doing it and i will right them down thanks again

the best time when your trying to suss out your foods is before eating then 2 hrs after ...there are many threads on this ...you'll amazed what makes you spike ..but we all different ..good luck
