Hi and welcome.
How long have you been diagnosed? Are you on any meds? How are things going for you?
There is a great crowd on here, lots of knowledge and experience, we are all different but walk the same path, so it's good to have you join us 🙂

Hi Janw 10 y+ Coeliac diagnosis first 15y +. On metaformin Sr. Just don't bother with diabetes as no symptoms, only follow this because Dr wants me to lose weight. Which is difficult, truck driver on day's and night's. Don't know if I'm coming or going half the time, as I can forget what I'm doing as I'm doing it. Absolutely no will power.

Welcome to the forum @Truckster

Not an easy time in history to be driving a wagon (or ‘larry’ as my Grandad used to call his), so thanks for what you do.

Also must make it tricky to fit diabetes into the mix, because of the pressures of time, and lack of routine - plus a less than complete selection of available food choices!

Glad you have joined us. Hope exchanging experiences with members here give you some ideas for more BG-friendly food on the go. It is the total carbohydrate content (not just ‘of which sugars’) of meals and snacks which will have the biggest impact on your BG levels, so while there are obvious things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will probably have cut out straight away, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits.

The other tricky thing is that diabetes can just kind of sneak up on you gradually - often you don’t realise how weary, worn down and lethargic you have been feeling. Erratic and elevated blood glucose levels can be exhausting and are linked with low mood, but this may have come on quite gradually.

Making a few positive changes can give you more energy, a clearer mind, and a brighter outlook. Many people on the forum later reflect that their diabetes became a sort of catalyst which prompted them to finally make positive changes towards a healthier and more active life - possibly changes that they had been intending to make for years, but never quite managed to.

Do you know the result of your most recent HbA1c check? It will be a number above 48mmol/mol, but may be quite a bit higher.

Actually no idea. Either poor memory or not interested. I carry a monitor but don't use it. As for energy and mood it's been rock bottom for a long time poor vit D absorption because of Coeliac, poor sleep because im working different shifts morning or afternoon and even nights, some times all in a week.

That sounds really tough @Truckster

Have you ever considered getting help for your mood and the way your long term conditions are impacting your mental health?

Diabetes (and other LTCs) are associated with increased risk of depression and other mental health challenges. It can be hard to take a first step to seek support, but there are lots of options available which might really help.

Sounds like everything is piling up one on top of another and making it really hard for you to manage everything you’ve gotgoing on :(

Absolutely nothing wrong with my mental health. I have reached out on the Coeliac self help FB page; we are really close. It's more the hours I work 56 - 60 hours a week and have done for 36 years. I've been obese all my life. And I'm comfortable with that. My problem is definitely in my head though lol.. Diets I've tried noom. I i rebel at the psychology

Apologies. No offence intended. I was just struck that you said your mood had been rock bottom for as long as you can remember. And low mood can be a real motivation and self-care sapper for me.

Work does sound like it makes things hard for you.

Absolutely offence taken. I'm strange ???9

Because I don't have any particular symptoms from diabetes I tend to ignore iregardless n regardess .
