Hi just been diagnosed with type 2 even tho I've got another blood test end of may to rule out type 1 as 3 family members were type 1.Im unsure of what comes next I've been put on metformin and a statin. My blood results were 96 and my cholesterol results were 8.4 I don't know what the next steps will be ????

Welcome @Lisa69jp 🙂 It’s very good news that you’re having extra tests to rule out Type 1.

I don’t take statins but I hope they help you.

Hiya - sorry to hear of your diagnosis but welcome to the forum. One good thing to start would be a (very) honest food diary of everything you eat and drink - paying particular attention to your carbohydrate intake. Further in, it will help you work out tweaks to your diet, with your team. Have you been given a blood glucose monitor to test your BGs before and after meals? If not, this is something to ask about - or you can self-fund. This is so helpful in getting to grips with your diabetes quickly.

There are two main types recommended by users on this forum are Spirit Tee 2 and Gluco Navii - both cost around £15 with strips and lancets coming in at around £8 pot, but you may be able to get a prescription for them.

A lot of the stuff you do for T2 control will help even if you end up diagnosed as LADA or T1 so the efforts will not be wasted!

Welcome to the forum @Lisa69jp

Glad to hear that they are also following up the possibility of T1.
it is good to know what you are dealing with. As @EllsBells has said, keeping a record of the carbs you are eating will help you and your team to become with an effective plan, whatever type of Diabetes you have.

Keep in touch and do ask any questions that you have.

Me too thankyou

Welcome to the forum @Lisa69jp

Hopefully you can get some clarity over the type of diabetes you are dealing with, so that you can begin to get your head around the options available to you to manage your diabetes going forwards.

An HbA1c of 96mmol/mol is quite high, though we’ve had members here start in 3 figures.
